FASD resources

It is hot here! It is almost the middle of September and we are at 90 degrees. Very warm for us. I am not complaining except for the fact that it is prolonging yellow jacket season. Since all of us have been stung multiple times this summer, I have decided to keep myself and the kids inside.

I thought I would take this opportunity to share some FASD resources with you. These are some incredible websites, with a lot of information.

Centers for Disease Control:FASD

Adoption Medicine

Special Needs Learning Web Site

I also want to share this workbook with you. I have seen it, and browsed through it. It is a great workbook. I am ordering one for each of my children. You can download it for free, but it is 240 pages. I am purchasing mine, they are $20.00 each through the Center for Disabilities at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. This is a workbook you will use with your children's teachers. Here are some of the topics it covers.

  • Overview of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders
  • Educating Students with a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
  • Functional Assessment
  • Environmental Modification
  • Communication
  • Executive Functions
  • Brain-Based Teaching Methods
  • Social Skills and Behaviors

We are just beginning our journey into FASD.  I will not let my children slip through the cracks, therefor I will be the best advocate I can be for my kiddos. I am a firm believer that knowledge is power, especially in these circumstances.
